A homes inventory is simply a detailed report and estimate of value of all the things that are in your household. A easy way to accomplish this is to use a camcorder or digital camera and take pictures of all the things in your home including small items such as cookware, DVDs, and fixtures. If you have more expensive items like electronics you need to also take pictures of the model and if you can serial #s so that your expensive items will be paid accurate worth. In addition, you might want to consider scheduling any valuable jewelry, so that in the instance these items are stolen outside the home it will have lower deductible if any. It is also advised that you upload you pictures on a secure online server or have copies made and store them in a safe place other than your property in the instance the pictures and detailed list of your possessions are unrecoverable. Once you have a detailed list assembled you need to compare your estimated values versus your existing policy’s coverage and adjust accordingly to ensure that you are not merely properly insured but also that you are not paying too much for additional coverage that you do not need. In some instances you might need to purchase additional coverage if the value of your possession exceeds the actual limits of your homeowner’s insurance in the event of a theft or disaster.
