Today, education cannot be considered as a right but more of a privilege. It’s a sad truth that many of our citizens are not able to get a degree after high school. After high school majority would just work and earn for themselves. Because of this, the government is trying its best to encourage students to proceed to tertiary education. One of their strategies is the Pell grant. As long as the student passes Pell grant eligibility requirements, he’s sure to be well on his way to college.
The Pell grant is a scholarship program offered by the federal government to high school students who will be getting into college. It is one of the best scholarships being offered today. A lot of people wish to apply and avail of it. But there are some requisites that need to be met in order to qualify.
The most basic in Pell grant eligibility is the financial status. The Pell grant is only awarded to those who are truly financially incapable of getting a college education. Applicants are screened and rated based on the EFC or expected family contribution. This value is computed based on a certain formula. The EFC is believed to be an accurate measure of the family income.
Aside from the financial status, some of the eligibility requirements include citizenship and good academic records. Good academic standing does not actually mean being in the honor’s list, as long as you don’t have failing grades, and you don’t have issues in discipline, then you’ll be okay.
For students who think that they have all the qualities needed for Pell grant eligibility they might as well try to apply. There’s only one simple step for the application and that is to fill out the application form. You can download it through the internet. Then all they have to do is submit it and wait for the results.
